FAQs

Braun Series 9 FAQs

What's the difference between foil and rotary shavers?
Rotary shavers are designed to work with cyclical movements while Braun foil shavers are designed to work with efficient sideways movements on the skin giving perfect control and precision. The foils protect the skin from irritation and are specifically designed to deliver the most thorough and comfortable shave from Braun.

Do you have any recommendation on how to shave with an electric foil shaver?
We recommend that you shave before you take a shower. Stretch the skin and shave against the direction of beard growth. At all times, hold the shaver at a right angle (90°) to your skin. Keep the pressure even to achieve the most thorough and comfortable shave from Braun. To trim sideburns, moustache or beard, Series 9 features an intergrated precision trimmer with superior cutting performance. In order to use this comfortable and precise tool, simply slide the trimmer upwards.

How do I clean my shaver?
The new Braun Series 9 cc shavers feature the Braun Automatic Clean & Charge Station, proven to clean more hygienically than tap water. The 5-action Clean & Charge Station: automatically cleans, charges, lubricates, selects cleaning program and dries at the touch of a button for lasting cutting efficiency. All Series 9 shavers are also waterproof up to 5m for full washability.

How often do I need to change the shaver head?
We recommend replacing all cutter parts every 18 months.
To maintain optimal performance, we included a replacement part indicator in the display to ensure that you know when to exchange the cutter parts.

Does the battery have a memory effect as we know it from cell phones or laptops?
No, Series 9 shavers use a Li-ion battery which has no memory effect. You can recharge it whenever you want and it has a low self-discharge rate (vs. NiMh batteries). Li-Ion batteries are therefore the most powerful and long-lasting battery available for Braun shavers.

Where is Series 9 shaver manufactured?
Like all Braun premium shavers, Series 9 is designed, engineered, and manufactured in Germany to ensure the very best build quality and reliability. All of our shavers are designed and tested to last at least 7 years, giving you the peace of mind that you can continue to enjoy the unique Series 9 experience for a very long time.

Amazing new shave

Before using this shaver I always found that after a few weeks either the blade head went blunt or it felt like the shaver was pulling at my skin :-( but not this one . It feels amazing to use the battery has a fantastic long life which ment my last holiday I took only the shaver which lastEd the whole week only using 1 bar on the indicator. The shave it self is wonderful so close I have completely stop using my wet razor . [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Braun Series 9 9290cc Review

This is my review of the new Braun Series 9 9290cc which is released next month. I was given this free of charge by BzzAgent to try and give an honest opinion whether good or bad so here it is. :)As it's a wet and dry shaver I did my usual prep by using shaving gel on one half of my face and on the other half I did nothing at all.So the Result from a week of not shaving having a dry shave):The shaver was pretty poor to be honest. It tugged at a couple of longer hairs on the lower neck at the start but did improve as I went on. I had to continually go back over every part of my face to get the missed spots where the razor only shortened the beard, didn't take it off completely. Took a good 5 minutes on that side alone to be "good enough" but even then I had to grab my blade to trim the longer neck hairs that were flat against my neck that it missed. 4/10.So the Result from a week of not shaving having a wet shave):The shaver was a LOT better on this side and didn't tug at all. It slid across the surface of the skin nice and easy but because it was easy it missed spots again so I had to repeat the process several times. Still didn't catch the longer neck hairs at the bottom and they needed a blade trim to finish. Took 4.5 minutes on that side. 6/10.Test Summary: *very* expensive shaver that is not capable of tackling longer hair without repeated passes of the neck area more so (and resulting skin irritation!). If I was a 5 day shaver I'd return it. Saying that I usually shave about every 2-3 days so would expect it to work better.5 day stubble (wet and dry average) - 5/10 [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

oooh feel that face. Like a baby's bottom!

So after dabbling in electric shavers at the age of 15 and having my face chewed up, I turned my back on electric, facial hair eating monsters in favour of clippers. I have walked this earth with a clipper length beard ever since. So when the opportunity came to trial the Braun Series 9 9290cc I thought why not... Opening the box my first reaction was, oooh there a lot going on here, am I trimming my beard or setting up a hair salon! Possibly due to being a shaver novice it took me 20 minutes to read everything and work out what it was all supposed to do. That did put me off somewhat. After finding out the cleaning station wasn't a rocket launch pad I looked for when in my small bathroom it could go.... nope, no space! so I sacked off the cleaning unit in favour of just washing the head out (which the instructions told me i can do!) It's too big in my opinion and even if I had space I looks ugly.It charged up pretty quick and that evening before bed i put cold metal to warm cheek and chopped through hairs to reveal skin that hasn't had a clear view of the outside world for decades. I was impressed with the shaver, it felt sturdy and well made, substantial in the hand without being overly heavy. It was easy to move around the face although I didn't find the need to use the adjustable head. I was initially tentative of lacerating my face by pressing too hard however I found that pushing harder got more hair in one pass and had no negative impact on my skin. My resulting shave was close and very smooth, like a baby's bottom! I'm not sure if my unit was special and came with an age reducing feature, but the person looking back at me from the mirror was my 14 year old self! I'm not sure if I'd use this every day, as i think for the sake of looking like an adult I need some subtle. However I no longer have a fear of mechanical beard eaters and would recommend this unit to anyone looking for a good shaver. Some pics to follow. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Best electric shaver I have used

I have always been a manual razor shaver. I have previously used some electric shaver and I think I didn't use it more than once as it was irritant to my skin, required a cable to connect and was not as close as a razor shave (I go against the grain so my razor shave is very close). Braun 9291 however is very different. I have now used for a good 3 weeks or so almost every day or so and I am absolutely loving it. Quality wise it seems very sturdy and easy to grip on whilst shaving. The quality feels very good. The package has the charger and a cleaner kit along with a cleaning brush. It's very easy to shave with and is surprisingly very quick to shave.the shave is extremely close, the same I used to get with my razor in a portion of the time. I do however note that despite the very close shave I need to do it almost every day as I note slight stubble after a day (manual razor used to last 2 days I think) but it's not that big of an issue in view of the quick shave. It doesn't irritate at all and it feels great to use. The other thing which surprises me is that the hairs just disappear somewhere in the machine, I literally do shave with my shirt on now. The machine also has a trimmer to get that perfect shape beard, it's not in an ideal place (back of shaver) and not very easy to use but I hope to ace it soon (I did manage to trim my sideburn more than required but everything works nowadays in the name of fashion). The batter lasts a while and indicates the level of battery as well as if it requires cleaning. The cleaner kit is very easy to use and takes a few hours to clean (and is charging at the same time). I note the cleaning cartridge needs replacing every few months, which seems like a hassle. Overall I am very impressed with the shaver and I hope it lasts me a while. Definitely not missing my shaving cream and my manual razor. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Outstanding wet and dry shave !

This is without a doubt the best electric razor I have ever used. Ultimately the most important factor for a razor is just how well it shaves ? And this is so smooth and precise. It gets hard to reach areas like the neck and jaw line with ease due to its lockable head position, so as you are shaving you can slide down the button to lock the head in position and remove the lock when you want to carry on. It comes with an electric cleaning system which also doubles up as it's charging station. So every now and then when prompted you press the button on the docking station and the razor is cleaned and sanitised by a replacement cleaning solution. You don't do this every shave but only when prompted. The razor shows you an illuminated battery indicator telling you how much power you have left so no running out of juice mid shave which is handy. Also comes with a nice hard travel case and battery lock so it does not activate when in bag. I would without a doubt recommend this to anyone ! Do your face a favour and buy one ! Make Shaving Great Again

I am a straight razor man. There's nothing like a good, clean, sharp shave. The way it makes the face feel and therefore me feel, is far superior to any other shave. That was until I picked up the Braun 9290cc. Don't get me wrong - I was not going to be convinced easily. I am not one to choose convenience over quality. It really needs to be both. And Braun gave it to me. Once a day. Right before the shower. A clean and sharp electric shave. It's a beautiful thing. Plus, it's not messy, super fast, and my son loves the way it cleans itself. Double bonus. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Good Shaver

I like the versatility of this product. It has many features that help keep my beard in check. The foil shaver flexes enough to contour my face. I generally have trouble with my neck. I think my hair is too curly for normal shavers to catch, but this Braun product gets almost all of my stray neck hairs. The self cleaning option is super nice too. I love having a fresh, clean shaver for the next day [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Great, close comfortable shave

Shaves very close and very comfortably. I suffer from razor burn/rash, but not with the razor. The integrated cleaning/charging station imparts a great lubricating gel into the shaving foils which has eliminated any irritation that I normally get.its a sleek looking product, the trimmer is ok and probably what lets the shaver down, some kind of length adjustment would make this the perfect product for me. That being said, if you shave your entire face and want a close, smooth, irritation free experience I would certainly reccomend the Braun! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Great Shaver & Nice Upgrade from Series 5

I've been using electric shavers for over 10 years and switched from Norelco to Braun back in 2009 with the 8781 (series 5). My venerable 8781 ran like a champ for years (used 3-4 days per week, changed the foil and blades every 18 months per Braun's recommendation, cleaned after every shave) so I when I had the chance to upgrade to the 9290cc, I had some reservations since my 8781 was running so well. I'm here to say that there are no regrets in making the switch. The 9290cc cuts closer with fewer passes than my old 8781. The shape fits my hand better and the ability to shave wet or dry is something I didn't know I was missing until I had a chance to use it. Now I'm hooked. One of the best things about this shaver, especially if you've already invested in a recurring subscription for the cleaning fluid, is that the 9290cc uses the same cleaning formula and reservoir so there was no loss of investment. If you're new to the clean and renew fluid, do yourself a favor and look into a subscription service as you'll use up the fluid in about a month of regular use and daily cleanings. I have no complaints about this fantastic shaver. If you're switching from a razor, you'll want to give your face a chance to adjust to the electric shaver so don't go fully negative after just a few days. It can take a little while but once you adjust, the convenience of electric is hard to beat.I included some pics comparing the old and new to help those of you considering the upgrade. Brains or Braun?

German engineering. Some of the best products come out of Germany and I think this one is pretty darn good too!I hadn't used an electric shaver since 2005. I was 18 and my experience with them wasn't great. It may have been my youthful skin, however, 10 years of manual razor shaving was the result as my last electric shaver burnt my face to bits (really badly) with shaver burn. I never looked at a electric shaver again. Then there was the Braun 9290 cc!The packaging was pretty nifty and the insides were pretty smart too. I particularly appreciated the carry case that comes with it to keep it clean and for travel purposes also. This included a tiny brush to get at the little nooks inside the shaver too pre-self cleansing. The shaver itself is chrome and black with a gold top. Very smart finish (check my pictures). There's a switch with clicks from dry to wet shave. So the main difference I can see is the dry shave setting allows the shavers head to become flexi to follow the contours of your face and jawline. The wet shave setting allows you to choose at different stages how the head adjusts. I used this shaver for the first time with quite long hair and shaving foam and it took ages. There was however no tug when in use. I also felt that the precision trimmer did most of the work to bring it down to a suitable length so then I could buzz with the dry shave setting instead. It work pretty well and with very minor irritation. Dry, wet, manual, electric you're always going to get some irritation but this was nothing a bit of moisturiser couldn't fix. The reason I've given a 4 star all in all was because of its ability to cope with longer hair. Although it says it has a 'hyper-lift&cut trimmer,' and a 'direct&cut trimmer ' and it makes "40,000 cross-cutting actions per second", it didn't feel like it was working. Was I pushing down to hard?? I don't know, but surely the hyperlift&cut trimmer should've solved this problem. The razor is quite loud too, easily wake a small child up if you were using one around the home. So I guess the fact that it's 100% water-proof is a fantastic thing, however, I'd need a mirror to see what I was doing. They recommend you replace the foil and cutter every 18 months which is quite decent. It also comes with a manufacturers 2-year warranty which is to be expected also. You also get a self-cleansing dock with coil cord. To me, at first the cleansing dock seemed a bit pointless as you tend to wash it under the tap each time you've finished with it. How wrong was I.... The self cleansing dock is amazing. Stylish black and very smart indeed. QuiteCompact and suitable to sit on your bedroom top with minimal space. In the box you get a insert of alcohol which you simply pop into the dock with ease and it does everything for you! From a sanitary perspective this is fab. One flaw I did find is the shaver needs to be dry before placing it on the dock For a cleaning cycle. If I'm off out I don't want to be waiting for it to dry so I can then dock it! Seems a bit of a pointless suggestion as it's going to be wet after you've swilled the top out. After my first experience of the self-cleansing tool I was very pleased. It was dry, lubricated and sanitized. A fan turns on inside the machine and keeps it dry for your next use. It was a pleasure to use. A light blinks on the shaver when it's time for a clean and it also knows what intensity of cleanliness it requires which is also very nifty. It also has blue bars on an LED screen which tells you how much shaving time you have left. The dock also tells you when it's time for a refill of the alcohol solution. When this shows it means it "good for 3 more cycles".The docks charging time is 1 hour for 50 minutes use. This to me suggests it doesn't need to be docked everytime, however, the instructions say dock it for a clean after every use.I was very pleased when using this product all-in-all. If you're a man who prefers to be clean shaven all the time (like me) than this is fab. If you love a good beard don't bother. One things for sure, I'm putting my manual razor on the shelf for now, because this works for me.Hope this review helps and Stay lucky! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
